Maintenance plans for WordPress are exciting, but they can be confusing! Here are answers to some common questions about them.
What is included in my maintenance package?
All WordPress and Squarespace website maintenance plans include basic security screening (keeping spammers and hackers at bay), daily off-site backups (where we make a full copy of your site in case anything goes wrong), and statistical analytics of how much traffic your site is getting. We handle the heavy lifting up updating your plugins, themes, and WordPress core (if applicable) and do QA tests after each update to see if anything breaks. In addition, all paid monthly plans include a certain number of hours for on-demand updates.
What counts as “updates”?
“Edits” or “updates” in the package descriptions are designed as a catch-all for any web development or design work. Basically, anything our team can help you out with is on the table, as long as it’s for the same website. We can update your team member bios, swap out new photos, even make you social media graphics, make an html newsletter, or edit a video.
How fast do updates happen?
We prioritize our maintenance plan clients above all else. Usually you will get a reply on the same business day, but in some cases it may take up to 2 business days. You are also always welcome to text or call us for a faster response.
What about SEO optimization?
You can use your discretionary time for that, or add that on to any package for $150 per hour per month. We will work together for each month to choose and optimize your keywords, get you more inbound links, publish better SEO-friendly content, and higher search rankings. It’s like having your own Google coach!
Do unused hours roll over?
Update plans are available in increments starting from 2 hours/month, billed monthly. This represents the maximum amount of time in a calendar month available to you for updates, though you are not obligated to use them all if not needed. Unused hours at the end of each month do expire if not used. You may consider having some evergreen tasks lined up for slower months, such as SEO optimization, social media graphics creation, etc. Or just rest assured knowing if a last minute emergency arises, you’ll be covered.
Are we agreeing to an annual term, or is it month to month?
There is no annual commitment. You are welcome to login and cancel or change your plan at any time.
Are there any cancellation requirements (i.e. 30-day advance notice)?
Nope! it would be nice to have a couple days to cancel the external security screening and backups for you, but you can cancel or change your plan anytime. Your account is automatically billed to the credit card we have of file on the anniversary of your signup each month. The first of each month is when we send maintenance reports with a stats snapshot and a summary of our work.
How does it work?
You are assigned a personal designer/developer to handle your site who knows it inside and out. Simply send an email whenever you’d like with the updates you want, and your designer will complete them within two business days. If additional hours are needed to complete edits, clients with a retainer plan will have first priority on purchasing additional hours at a discounted rate.
What if I don’t want to pay a monthly fee?
Clients who choose not to subscribe in a monthly retainer plan may instead purchase edits “a la carte” for our standard hourly rate as-needed, but please be aware these are strictly subject to designer availability, subject to a one-hour minimum, and not guaranteed within a particular timeline.
